Milad Bagheri presents Galoba (/’ɡaːlobaː/, meaning ‘chant’ in Georgian):

A tranquil electroacoustic drone inspired by ancient chants from the mountains of the Caucasus, Galoba offers a sonic remedy for exhausted souls, bridging time and space with its timeless beauty.

The story of Galoba began during Christmas 2019, when Bagheri was tasked with recording a concert of Georgian Christmas songs and chants at the Tbilisi State Conservatoire. Immersed in the serene and soothing atmosphere, he found solace and inspiration in the music, sparking the creation of sonic art pieces that blend traditional Georgian chants with contemporary soundscapes. After sharing his initial sketches with the concert’s supervisor, Bagheri was invited to record a special event at the thousand-year-old Samtavisi Cathedral, where he recorded material for his album.

Galoba combines five phrases from two hours of concert recordings with field recordings gathered across Georgia over two years. This sonic journey interweaves the ancient with the modern, creating an immersive experience where healing sounds transport listeners into the depths of Georgian chants enriched by electroacoustic elements.

Originally released in 2020 by the US-based record label Flag Day Recordings as both a digital album and a cassette, Galoba continues to resonate with audiences worldwide.
